Mountain gorillas and chimpanzee are the major tour attractions in Uganda. The protected areas of the Albertine region have the greatest number of primates with Mgahinga and Bwindi impenetrable forest national parks having about half the world’s population of mountain gorillas living in the wild. And Kibale forest national park have over 13 various species of primates.
This 8 days tour will enable you do gorilla tracking, chimpanzee trekking, nature walks and wildlife game drives
- Day 1: Transfer to Kibale
- Day 2: Chimpanzee tracking /Nature walk (Bigodi Swamp)
- Day 3: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park / Launch cruise
- Day 4: Game drive / Chimpanzee tracking
- Day 5: Transfer to Bwindi
- Day 6: Gorilla Tracking.
- Day 7: Transfer to Kampala.
- Day 8: Ngamba Island.
Day 1: Transfer to Kibale
Early in the morning have breakfast and then transfer to Kibale forest National Park. The drive will take you through plantations, home stead and green country sides to reach fort portal in the afternoon. Fort portal lies amidst the great Rwenzori “Mountains of the moon”. Have lunch and then later in the afternoon go visit the Ndali crater lakes region.
Day 2: Chimpanzee tracking /Nature walk (Bigodi Swamp)
In the morning have breakfast and then go search for chimpanzee in the forest. The park is known to harbour the largest number of primates in the country and therefore you should expect other primates like the grey cheeked Mangabeys, black and white colobus monkeys, baboons and others. In the afternoon you will go for a nature walk in the Bigodi wetland; an initiative of the local community known for its rich diversity of birds and primates.
Day 3: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park / Launch cruise
Early morning have breakfast and then transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park. You will reach the park before noon, check in the lodge and have lunch and then in the afternoon go for a boat ride on the Kazinga channel. The launch cruise will reward you with water animals like hippos, buffaloes, elephants and plenty of birds both residents and migrants. Dinner and overnight at Mweya Safari Lodge / Jacana Lodge/ Institute of Ecology.
Day 4: Game drive / Chimpanzee tracking
Before dusk wake up and go for a game drive in the Kasenyi sector. The drive will reward you with game like the Lions, buffaloes, elephants, Uganda Kob, bush bucks, warthogs, and many more. In the afternoon you will transfer to the Kyambura gorge and go search for chimpanzees and other primates. Dinner and overnight at Mweya Safari Lodge / Jacana Lodge/ Institute of ecology.
Day 5: Transfer to Bwindi
Through the Ishasha sector you will transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park. The park most known for its great apes. The drive will reward you with tree climbing lions enroute. You will reach in the afternoon and then go for a community walk. This is optional. You may decide to rest in the afternoon at the lodge. Dinner and overnight at Gorilla Resort / Buhoma community Bandas.
Day 6: Gorilla Tracking.
Following breakfast you will transfer to the park headquarters for briefing before you set off at 9:00 am through the tracks to search for the humble giants. You will go with packed lunch because it’s hard to determine how long it will take you to meet these great apes. However the time ranges between 2-9 hours depending on the movement of the giant primates. The activity is tiresome, it involves walking along steep hilly tracks however encountering these great relatives of man erases all the poor memories/ hardships you went through in trying to find them. Dinner and overnight at Gorilla forest Camp / Buhoma community Bandas.
Day 7: Transfer to Kampala.
You will have breakfast early morning and then transfer to Kampala. You will have stops for lunch and at the Equator for photographs to reach in the evening. Dinner and overnight at Sheraton Hotel / Botanical Hotel / Holiday express.
Day 8: Ngamba Island.
In the morning have breakfast and then transfer to Ngamba Island; the chimpanzee sanctuary.
