5 Day Uganda Congo Gorilla Safari
Day 1: Arrival in Kigali & Transfer to Virunga National Park
Arrive at Kigali International Airport where you will meet your driver-guide and embark on a transfer to Virunga National Park in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Cross the border at Goma and check into a comfortable lodge such as Mikeno Lodge or Kibumba Tented Camp, nestled close to the park. Prepare for the thrilling gorilla trekking the next day with a restful evening.
Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Virunga National Park
Wake early for a briefing at the Bukima Patrol Post before starting your gorilla trek escorted by experienced park rangers. Trek through lush rainforest as you search for the endangered mountain gorillas, spending up to one hour in their presence observing their fascinating behavior. After the trek, return to your lodge to relax and enjoy nature.
Day 3: Transfer to Bwindi National Park
After breakfast, cross back into Uganda and embark on a long scenic drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. This verdant forest is home to many habituated gorilla families. Check into a forest lodge such as Buhoma Lodge or Gorilla Mist Camp for dinner and overnight.
Day 4: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Forest
After an early breakfast, head to the park headquarters for a briefing before trekking into the dense forest to find the mountain gorillas. Trekking duration may vary, but the hour spent with these magnificent primates is unforgettable. Return to the lodge to unwind or engage in additional forest activities like nature walks or Batwa community visits.
Day 5: Departure or Extension Options
After breakfast, begin your onward journey back to Kampala or Entebbe, or extend your safari with chimpanzee trekking in Kibale Forest, a boat cruise on Queen Elizabeth’s Kazinga Channel, or cultural visits in western Uganda. Transfers to the airport will be arranged for your departure.
